What is Fachsprachtrainer?

Fachsprachtrainer is an AI-powered training platform for medical German. It helps doctors train their medical language for clinical practice and the Fachsprachprüfung (FSP) — through conversation simulations, Arztbrief exercises, and aloud practice with speech recognition.

What's the difference from Kenntnistrainer?

Kenntnistrainer prepares for the Kenntnisprüfung — that's about medical knowledge. Fachsprachtrainer focuses on medical language and communication in German. Two different exams, two specialized platforms.

Does the FSP only test language or also medical knowledge?

The FSP primarily tests your ability to communicate medically in German — conversations, documentation, explanations. Basic medical knowledge is assumed, but the exam evaluates your language competence.

What German level do I need to start?

B2 German is recommended. You choose your own starting level, and the exercises adapt to the level you picked — from basic communication to exam-ready C1 medical language.

How does speaking practice work?

You speak medical terms and sentences. The app compares the recognized text with the expected phrase and honestly shows which words were recognized. This is training feedback, not an official pronunciation assessment.

Can I practice writing medical reports?

Yes. You receive a clinical scenario and write an Arztbrief. The AI gives you feedback on the structure, medical language, grammar, and completeness of your letter — and shows improvements sentence by sentence.

How is this different from a regular German course?

German courses teach everyday language. Fachsprachtrainer trains medical communication — history taking, findings discussion, patient counseling, medical reports. Every exercise is medical and exam-relevant.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. During the current testing phase you can try every learning area for free. Please tell us directly if something is missing or broken.

Is Fachsprachtrainer also useful for doctors already working in Germany?

Absolutely. Many users are already working in clinical settings and want to improve their medical communication — ward round language, medical reports, patient counseling. The training is as practice-relevant as it is exam-relevant.

Which medical specialties are covered?

Scenarios cover internal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, neurology, and more. New scenarios are added regularly.

Does the AI make decisions about me?

No. The AI only gives you practice feedback on your training conversations and practice documents — it makes no automated decisions about you as a person (GDPR Art. 22). Your practice results have no effect on the real Fachsprachprüfung: it is conducted and graded exclusively by human examiners of the medical chambers (Ärztekammern). And how you use the feedback for your learning is entirely up to you.

Context

C1 is printed on the certificate, but the exam does not ask for grammar tables. It asks whether you can explain the same diagnosis to an anxious patient and, two minutes later, to the senior physician.

What C1 means in a professional context

The Common European Framework of Reference describes C1 generally as competent language use for complex topics. BLÄK builds directly on that, but with a medical focus: C1 professional language on the basis of B2 general-language skills.

In practice: B2 is enough to get by in everyday life. C1 professional language only becomes visible when you switch between patient explanation, written documentation, and colleague handoff without losing the thread or the precision.

Why pure vocabulary drilling is not enough

Knowing a medical term by heart is only the first step. C1 level requires using it in three directions.

Explain it so a patient understands, without becoming clinically imprecise.
Document it correctly in writing, with clear references.
Name it precisely for a colleague, without unnecessary detours.

Check the language register

Translate medical terms into patient-friendly German without becoming clinically inaccurate.

Practise indirect speech, concise handoff, and written precision separately and then combined.

A concrete practice example

Take 'syncope'. Patient-friendly: 'You briefly lost consciousness.' Documentation: 'History of a single syncopal episode without prodrome.' Colleague: 'Suspected cardiogenic syncope, ECG and imaging pending.' Practise this triple phrasing for ten terms a week instead of just passively reading a hundred terms.

Common misunderstandings

C1 does not mean using as many technical loanwords as possible – overdoing it in the patient conversation is a mistake, not a sign of level. Likewise, a good general B2 course alone is not FSP preparation, because it rarely trains the medical register switch.
